Choose a tool based on the document and task
Merging, rotating, cropping, extracting pages, and editing metadata are different operations with different failure modes. Before choosing a tool, identify the exact change you need and whether the document contains personal, financial, or confidential information.
Understand where processing happens
Some PDF operations can run in your browser, while other workflows may send a file to a server. Do not assume every feature in a web app processes files locally. For sensitive documents, check the product’s privacy and processing details before uploading, and avoid using a service whose handling you cannot verify.
Treat password protection honestly
A PDF password prompt is not the same as permission to bypass access controls. Only unlock a file when you are authorized to do so and know the current password. If you do not have permission or the password, ask the document owner for access instead of trying to defeat its protection.
Preserve the source and inspect the result
Keep an unchanged copy before making edits. After processing, open the output and check page order, orientation, text, forms, and metadata that matter for your use case. If a document is going to be submitted or signed, verify the final file in a second viewer as well.
Use a deliberate workflow
Unclasp brings common PDF operations such as merging, splitting, rotating, cropping, and metadata editing into one toolkit. Its project page describes which operations are supported and where browser-based processing applies; review those details for the specific task before handling sensitive files.
