Git Commit Summary

A command-line tool that turns Git commit diffs into readable summaries, change statistics, file types, and detected functions.

COMMAND-LINE TOOLPython & Node.js packages

What it does

Reviewing a commit diff can take time. This command-line tool provides a concise summary from piped Git output.

It is built for developers who want a quick overview of a Git commit or diff from their terminal.

What I built

I built the tool around a simple terminal workflow: pipe a Git diff into the command, scan a compact summary, then inspect the original patch for the code-review details.

Key features

  • Summarize changed files and line counts
  • Group changed files by extension
  • Detect newly added functions in several common languages
  • Read diff input from standard input
  • Available as Python and Node.js packages

How it’s built

The repository provides Python and Node.js command-line implementations. Both read diff input from standard input; the Python package can use Colorama for terminal styling.
